Why Does My Dog Smell Like Corn Chips?
Are you well acquainted with the smell of corn chips? It's a musty, stale, and pungent odor. And yes, they can be smelt from your dog's paw just like the way the smell of your morning corn chip snack lingers on your fingers.
So why does it happen? Is your dog trying to tell you something? Well, it is a sign of something amiss with your dog. The smell is caused by a combination of natural sweat secretion in the paws and daytime heat which creates the perfect environment for bacteria to grow. All you need to do is to pay attention to your dogs' paws and see if this smell appears.
Treatment: Don't let your dog lick their paws too much. If they do so, distract them while they are at it and make sure that their paws have been cleaned properly before giving them food or water. However, if it is just a mild case, there's no need for concern but if it becomes worse, make sure you bring her to the vet for treatment. Also, make sure that she has no wounds in her paws because once infected, it would only worsen the smell and cause her discomfort.
If you ever experience this corn chip smell coming from your dog’s paws, don’t panic. Simply clean their paws and monitor their overall foot health. If the smell gets too strong (it becomes more than just a normal “doggy smell”), it might be time to take them in to get an exam from your vet!
